jo jo in the stars is a film directed by marc craste, senior annnimation director at studio aka in london, and the winner of the best short film award at the international 3D awards 2004. jo jo incorporates all the ingredients of a classic bittersweet romantic tale in twelve minutes of gritty black and white footage. with those simplest characters marc wanted to inject some emotion into this little world. the story condense some of the grandest themes in life: love, jealousy, self-sacrifice. jo jo was created using softimage xsi and the whole project was composited together using after effects.
s-a scris atat de mult desprecaravaggio, in realitate, se cunosc putine date care sa sustina multe dintre legendele nascute pe seama biografiei sale. cei care au vazut in caravaggio doar un un personaj turbulent, aflat intr-o disputa permanenta cu autoritatile, nu au avut dreptate decat partial. in fapt, asemeni lui villon, biografia lui caravaggio asumat “frivola”, contine o filozofie personala, regasita in modul in care intelegea sa traiasca si sa reflecte viata. din acest punct de vedere, filmul lui derek jarman e o ilustrare fericita a vietii artistului prin intermediul operelor sale. si, de ce sa nu recunostem, putine filme biografice au forta de a-ti trezi curiozitatea si de a te trimite sa descoperi omul din spatele personajului de pe ecran, asa cum caravaggio lui jarman reuseste sa o faca, in acest low budget movie, filmat in doar 6 saptamani, la inceputul lui septembrie ‘85.inainte de orice, caravaggioeste un film despre arta. accentul cade cu precadere asupra acestui aspect al biografiei. filmul comprima doua decenii din viata artistului, perioada in care, caravaggio a schimbat radical maniera de a picta de pana atunci, impunand privitorului un nou mod de a relationa cu tabloul. contrastele violente dintre lumina si umbra, intre tonurile calde si reci, dintre viata mizera a modelor sale si cele pe care urma sa le intruchipeze; maniera de abordare a subiectului (total atipica acelei perioade); realismul executiei fac din caravaggio- il maestro. il mio maestro.
pe de alta parte, filmul are rara capacitate de a reda ceea ce tine de specificitatea stilului incofundabil al artistului -clarobscurul fiind prezent tot timpul de-a lungul filmului, impunandu-se ca un doilea subiect. de aici, am putea spune, exagerand desigur, ca filmul, nu e decat un pretext pentru regizorul derek jarman si fotograful gabriel beristain de a studia lumina. de a decripta si transpune prin intermetiul peliculei tehnica clarobscurului.
chiar daca s-a spus ca in cautarea originalitatii, jarek a scurtcircuitat constructia epica prin folosirea abuziva a flashback-ului, dar mai ales a anacronismelor, bulversand pana la exasperare spectatorul, prin dinamica insertiunilor de elemente contemporane, in fapt, regizorul nu face decat sa puna in balans ceea ce se vrea a fi realitatea faptului istoric, si cel voit, fantastic, necesar ireal.
