“when we are no longer children, we are already dead” - constantin brancusi
so, happy bday, sweet child!
jan von holleben’s photographs make nostalgic dreams like crossing the desert on the back of a dog… come true

inspired by classic childhood books as well as modern superheroes, jan produces ‘dreams of flying’ since 2002 with children from his local neighbourhood in south west germany.

“i want to question and challenge traditional views on childhood and how a child defines its own being. i want to show a possibility of documenting childhood in a child friendly and respectable way in opposition to popular visual representation of childhood which is mainly directed by adults…

(…) i also want to introduce a very playful attitude to photography” – jan von holleben.
jan has won a number of photography awards in the uk including an observer hodge photographic award, a lucie award in n.y and so on…
